Need to Fit Three Car Seats? Slim Foonf Might Work

Foonf_minivan
They say hindsight is 20/20, and in the case of my child-safety-seat purchases, they would be correct. If I could go back in time, I'd skip buying the super-wide convertible car seats and would look for a much slimmer design, like the Foonf car seat by Clek.
The Foonf is a slim but pricey convertible car seat that's just less than 17 inches wide, which means that fitting three safety seats into a backseat could be a little easier with this car seat. According to Clek, 50 inches of seat width is required to fit three forward-facing Foonfs side by side (48 inches if you stagger one of them rear-facing).
When Baby No. 3 comes along, many families buy a new car because they can't fit three car seats across their smaller car's backseat. Some cars will fit three child-safety seats across the second row, but the list is small. While the Foonf might make it possible to keep your current car, you'll likely end up having to buy more than one of them.

Recall Alert: 2013 Cadillac ATS, XTS and 2014 Chevrolet Impala

2013CadillacATS
GM is recalling 1,627 model-year 2013 Cadillac ATS and XTS sedans and 2014 Chevrolet Impala sedans due to an electrical problem affecting the brake lights and cruise control that could cause confusion for other drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
On the affected vehicles, brake lights may flash without the brakes being applied, and the cruise control may disengage. If the brake lights flash when the vehicle is not slowing, a following driver may then fail to adjust speed when the vehicle does in fact brake and the brake lights illuminate as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon - white - front three-quarter view live at 2013 New York Auto Show

Mentioned at the debut of the redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class back in January, Mercedes has finally pulled back the curtain on the E63 AMG S, which was on display at the New York Auto Show in wagon guise. The 2014 E63 AMG S ups the ante even more from a "base" E63 AMG, improving the car's performance and styling - not that it needed help with either to begin with.

Our favorite S-model upgrade is the added output tweaked out of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, which represents a substantial gain of 27 hp and 59 lb-ft of torque over the stock E63. In wagon form, the E63 AMG S can run from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. All 2014 E63 AMGs come with Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, but the S-Model adds in a limited-slip rear differential for improved performance.

Mercedes has made sure that the extra money being spent on the S-Model is instantly noticeable with slightly different design cues and black along with 10-spoke wheels with red brake calipers peeking through. Plenty of silver-chrome and high-gloss black accents finish off the exterior styling, while the interior adds Alcantara on the steering wheel, accent stitching on the leather and contrasting silver seat belts on models with the black interior. Scroll down for an official video and press release.

2014 Suzuki SX4: Suzuki Still Produces Autos, Just Not for Us [2013 Geneva Auto Show]

2014 Suzuki SX4: Suzuki Still Produces Autos, Just Not for Us [2013 Geneva Auto Show]:

Despite Suzuki’s departure from the U.S. market, the company continues to be a player in other parts of the world, a fact underscored by the Geneva introduction of its new SX4 crossover. The SX4 has been one of Suzuki’s most popular offerings, and the latest iteration continues to be a five-passenger vehicle, based on a front-drive unibody platform, but it’s substantially bigger than the current model, with a much more contemporary look and upscale interior furnishings.

The SX4’s growth spurt results in a 4.0-inch longer wheelbase than the outgoing model at 102.4, and overall length extends by 6.5 inches to 169.3. Height, width, and track dimensions also expand, and the sum of the increases is sufficient to move the SX4 up one size classification, into the C segment. Those increased dimensions provide a bit more room for passengers, and a lot more room for luggage and/or cargo—15.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, versus 9.5 for the current SX4. And Suzuki anticipates a five-star European NCAP crashworthiness rating.
There are two engine choices, both 1.6-liter fours—a DOHC 16-valve gasoline update of the current M16A, and a turbo-diesel. Both engines are rated for 115 horsepower, but the diesel is the torque monster—236 lb-ft versus 115. The standard transmission with the gas-powered engine is a five-speed manual, while the oil-burner comes with a six-speed stick. A continuously variable transmission is the automatic option for both powerplants, and features paddle shifters with seven artificial steps to minimize CVT hunting.

Full-time all-wheel drive is an option with either engine, an update on Suzuki’s current system that the company calls ALLGRIP. It offers four driver-select operating modes—automatic, sport, snow, and lock, for particularly sticky going.
The new SX4 will be assembled in Magyar, Hungary, and is slated to reach the European market this fall. Pricing and fuel-economy projections were not disclosed, but based on what Suzuki did tell us, the SX4 seems to be a stylish small crossover that could well appeal to U.S. buyers. But that’s something we’ll never know for sure.
